So now that I've managed to figure out how to downsize some pics, here's my second in progress. Specs: Adi top, Master Grade EIR back and sides, Flamed Koa trim and rosette, Mac Eb. FB and head plate. That is a shape I drew myself. I call it a Modified D***d. I just took my old Takamines shape, tucked in the waist, flared the bouts and dropped the shoulders a bit. What you see on there is a coat of System Three Epoxy on the back and sides and there's a wash coat of Super Blonde shellac on the top. ![]() I got my binding and purfling from Shane at Highmountain. Awesome stuff and as always, top drawer service from one of our sponsors. Thanks Shane! So from the inside it's koa/maple/koa/EIR/Koa ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very nice, Alain! The more I see this combo (dark b/s, Koa binding), the more I like it. It is really handsome. One of those things to do for sure. The single white purfling line on the sides was a gutsy move--but you pulled it off quite well. ![]() Steve |

Alain, WOW!!! Absolutely spectacular. Very, very impressive. Did you glue the purfling strips together yourself? Your choice of woods really sets off the Adi top. The only problem I have with your guitar is that my wife has seen your pictures and now realizes that something other than B/W/B is possible. I am in real trouble! By the way, I am really impressed by fact that you created your own shape. Congrats, Pete |

Thanks a lot for your kind words guys! Hesh, that EIR is from LMI. It's their highest grade. I don't think they call it 'Master' though. Yes, I've decided to bring it to Bob's. Steve, the single white purfling was more stupidity than good sense ![]() Shane, unfortunately, this one is leaving home soon. ![]() Pete, thanks man. The purfling I got from Shane was koa/maple/koa. Gorgeous looking stuff. I felt bad having to hide those flamy sides in a channel! I added a very thin 0.020 EIR lam to the Koa binding.. The EIR lam. had the same height as the binding. It was a bit of a pain in the derriere but worth it in the end. |

Very Beautiful I is just amazing what everyone does here on the OLF. Number 2???????? just amazing I still haven't attempted the mitered lines on the binding yet. You are doing it on #2. Simply fantastic. Also , doing a cutaway and creating your own shape!!!! I still need my plans. Bravo |

Alain I really like it, your binding and purflings scheme is really cool, and looks nicely executed, as does the rest of the guitar. |

Guys, thank you so much for your very kind and generous comments! I'm really glad you like the shape. It really jumped out at me once I drew it, but then again, I'm a bit partial/biased. ![]() Now I can't wait to start another one! |
